Wellbeing
Supporting Every Child to Flourish
At St John's Church of England Primary Academy, we believe that children flourish when they feel safe, valued, loved and supported. Our commitment to wellbeing is rooted in our Christian vision and inspired by the example of the Good Samaritan, reminding us to care for one another with compassion, kindness and unconditional love.
Wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. We know that when children feel happy, secure and confident, they are able to thrive both academically and personally. We work hard to create a nurturing environment where every child is known as an individual, every voice is heard and everyone feels that they belong.
A Culture of Care
Our REACH values of Resilience, Excellence, Agape, Community and Hope shape the relationships throughout our school.
Children are encouraged to:
- build positive friendships
- show kindness and compassion to others
- develop resilience when facing challenges
- celebrate each other's successes
- ask for help when they need it
- understand that mistakes are part of learning.
We believe that wellbeing is everyone's responsibility. Every member of staff plays an important role in creating a calm, caring and inclusive school where children feel confident to learn, grow and be themselves.
Supporting Emotional Wellbeing
Children experience many different emotions as they grow and learn. We help them to understand these feelings, develop healthy ways to manage them and build the confidence to overcome challenges.
Support may include:
- trusted adults who know every child well
- opportunities to talk and be listened to
- nurture and pastoral support
- emotional literacy and personal development
- collective worship and reflection
- strong partnerships with families
- access to additional support when needed.
Our aim is always to provide the right support, at the right time, so that every child can flourish.
Wellbeing Through School Life
Wellbeing is woven throughout everyday life at St John's.
Children benefit from:
- a welcoming and inclusive school environment
- positive relationships with staff and their peers
- opportunities to take on leadership responsibilities
- a broad and ambitious curriculum
- physical activity, sport and outdoor learning
- clubs, enrichment opportunities and creative experiences
- moments for quiet reflection and spiritual development.
These experiences help children develop confidence, resilience, independence and a strong sense of belonging.
Working Together with Families
We know that children achieve their best when school and home work in partnership.
We value the positive relationships we build with parents and carers and encourage open communication. Whether celebrating success or working through challenges, we are committed to supporting families with care, understanding and compassion.
Together, we create a community where children know they are surrounded by adults who want them to succeed.
Caring for Our Staff
At St John's, we recognise that supporting children's wellbeing begins with supporting the wellbeing of the adults who care for them.
We foster a culture of teamwork, trust and mutual support where staff are encouraged to look after their own wellbeing as well as that of others. By investing in our staff, we ensure that they are able to provide the very best care, guidance and education for every child.
What SIAMS Said About Wellbeing
Our SIAMS inspection in June 2026 recognised wellbeing as one of the school's notable strengths.
Inspectors praised the strong emphasis leaders place on mental health and wellbeing across the whole school community. They recognised that our Christian vision has created a supportive and nurturing culture where pupils and adults build relationships rooted in kindness and mutual respect. The inspection also highlighted the positive partnerships with families, the caring atmosphere throughout the school and the way staff support one another professionally and personally.
We are proud that wellbeing is not simply something we promote—it is something we live every day through our relationships, our values and our commitment to ensuring that everyone in our school community is known, valued, loved and able to flourish.
