Academy Attendance

The Academy seeks to promote positive behaviour based on mutual respect between all members of the Academy community, of which good attendance is an important aspect.

At St John's Church of England Primary Academy, we believe we are More Than a School. We are a welcoming and nurturing family where every child and every adult is known, valued and encouraged to flourish.

Our Christian vision is inspired by the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25–37), reminding us that we are called to show compassion, kindness and unconditional love to everyone we meet. Through this vision, we seek to create a community where all are welcomed, supported and challenged to become the very best version of themselves by instilling the values of: Resilience, Excellence, Agape, Community and Hope.

Good attendance and punctuality are vital not only for success at St. John's but also to establish positive life habits for future learning and the world of work. This also minimises the risk of pupils displaying anti-social behaviour or becoming victims or perpetrators of crime or abuse. Regular, good attendance encourages children to build friendships and develop social groups; work together as a whole team; share ideas, and develop life skills. Pupils with poor attendance will inevitably miss out on essential learning and on events such as school visits. Children's social skills are also enhanced by good attendance.

At St. John's C of E Primary Academy we do not authorise any leave of absence (except in very exceptional circumstances) and parents are expected to complete a Leave of Absence Form in all instances.

Leave of absence is coded as ‘G’ and  reported to the Local Authority who may issue penalty notices.

If your child arrives late for any reason parents are required to sign in with our electronic signing in system. It is the responsibility of all our parents to ensure that this is completed and the child obtains the relevant mark.

​Poor punctuality and attendance are actively managed by our Attendance Team.
