Vision and Values

More Than a School

At St John's Church of England Primary Academy, we believe we are More Than a School. We are a welcoming and nurturing family where every child and every adult is known, valued and encouraged to flourish.

Our Christian vision is inspired by the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25–37), reminding us that we are called to show compassion, kindness and unconditional love to everyone we meet. Through this vision, we seek to create a community where all are welcomed, supported and challenged to become the very best version of themselves.

Our Academy is More Than a School—We're a welcoming and nurturing family, who love and support one another. As a school community we are inspired by the message and example of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25–37) and seek to live as people of hope and hospitality. We shine with resilience, strive for excellence, and embody agape—unconditional love, welcoming and enabling all to flourish.

Everything we do is rooted in this vision. It shapes our curriculum, our relationships, our decision making and the opportunities we provide for our children. We believe every child has unique gifts and talents, and it is our privilege to help them discover these, develop confidence and leave St John's ready to make a positive difference in the world.

Why the Good Samaritan?

Jesus' Parable of the Good Samaritan teaches us that love is shown through action.

The Samaritan stopped to notice someone in need, showed compassion without judgement and demonstrated courage by helping another person when others had walked by.

This story inspires us to build a school community where everyone belongs. It reminds us that kindness matters, that every individual deserves dignity and respect, and that we all have the opportunity to make a positive difference through our words and actions each day.

Whether supporting a friend who is finding something difficult, celebrating another person's success or helping our wider community, we encourage our children to live out the message of the Good Samaritan in practical and meaningful ways.

Our REACH Values

Our vision is lived through our REACH values.

Resilience

We encourage everyone to approach challenges with determination and perseverance. We understand that mistakes are part of learning and that resilience helps us grow in confidence, character and wisdom.

Excellence

We strive to be the very best that we can be in every aspect of school life. We celebrate effort, ambition and achievement, encouraging every child to fulfil their God-given potential.

Agape

Agape is unconditional love.

We seek to demonstrate kindness, compassion, forgiveness and generosity in all that we do. We care deeply for one another and believe every person is uniquely valued.

Community

We are stronger together.

Our school is built on positive relationships between pupils, staff, families, governors, our Trust, our church and the wider community. We encourage everyone to contribute positively and recognise that each individual has an important part to play.

Hope

Hope gives us confidence for the future.

We inspire children to believe in themselves, embrace new opportunities and face challenges with courage and optimism, knowing they are supported every step of the way.

Our Vision in Action

Our Christian vision is not simply words displayed on a wall—it is reflected in the everyday life of our school.

It can be seen in the way children support one another in the classroom and on the playground, in the welcoming atmosphere experienced by visitors, in our commitment to inclusion and wellbeing, and in the strong partnerships we have with families, the church and our wider community.

Children are encouraged to become active citizens through leadership opportunities such as the School Council, Eco Council and Play Leaders. They contribute to charity fundraising, environmental projects and community initiatives, learning that they can make a positive difference to the lives of others.

Our curriculum encourages curiosity, creativity and courageous thinking. Children learn to ask thoughtful questions, respect different beliefs and cultures, reflect on their own values and develop the confidence to stand up for what is right.

Collective worship provides daily opportunities for reflection, prayer and spiritual growth, helping children and adults to consider how our vision and values can be lived out beyond the school gates.

Enabling Everyone to Flourish

We are proud that our Christian vision was recognised during our SIAMS inspection in June 2026.

Inspectors found that:

St John's Church of England Primary Academy is living up to its foundation as a Church school and is enabling pupils and adults to flourish.

The inspection recognised that our vision is firmly embedded throughout school life, creating a nurturing culture where positive relationships, wellbeing, ambitious learning and spiritual development enable every member of our community to flourish. It celebrated our inclusive collective worship, high-quality Religious Education, strong partnerships and the way our children develop respect, compassion, confidence and resilience.

This recognition reflects the commitment of our pupils, staff, governors, families, St Chad's Academies Trust, St John's Church and the Diocese of Lichfield in working together to make St John's a truly special place to learn, grow and belong.

At St John's, our vision is simple:

To ensure that every child and every adult is known, valued, loved and enabled to flourish.
